I had dinner tonight with Dad and his new girlfriend.  The one I met a couple of weeks ago broke up with him a couple of days after we met.  Dad says it's a money thing- she either has money, or had it at some point (most likely the latter) and she's looking for someone who can keep her in a certain lifestyle.  This was true of a few of the women Dad's met on J Date,  One of them, Shelly, refused to ride in Dad's car, a 2003 Camry.  She always came up with excuses to take hers.

Anyhow, this one's name is Marcy, and she's a little older than Dad, at 72.  She's a nurse-practioner who works at a drug and alcohol rehab not too far from here.  Apparently Palm Beach County has more rehabs than any other city in the country.  I mentioned to her that I sometimes watch the A&E show Intervention, and a lot of time the patients are taken to rehab or detox facilities in one of the little towns around here, and she told me she's had  few patients from the show.  Her facility (not naming names or locations) charges $32,000 a month.  Wow.

Anyhow, she's nice and funny, and definitely not boring like Cheryl, the last one (who's still calling Dad off and on).  She has 3 kids, two in Florida and one in Georgia.  All of them are lawyers, but her daugher is also a nurse as well as an attorney.  She's dating a woman Marcy works with at the rehab.

  I hope this goes well.  I'm sick of the girlfriend drama.

In non-dating news, I've decided to improve my cooking.  After many months of suggestion, I finally got Dad to buy a slow cooker.  Dad really wants a beef stew, and our earlier tries in regular pots were not successful.  I really should have written down all of my mom's recipes when she was alive.  She made such good stew, meatballs and brisket, and I've had to search out all sorts of recipes, and while they taste good, they don't really taste right, if you know what I mean.

I made a chicken dish the other week when my aunt and uncle were visiting that required me cooking (and eating) butternut squash for the first time.  Between me, my dad and my aunt, it took us a long time to peel and slice that stupid thing.  The two days ago I was in the supermarket and found out they sell butternut squash already peeled and cut in a nice little easy to open deli box.  Of my God, was I mad!

Last night I made a sort of Greek/Italian stirfry.  I cut an eggplant into chunks, sauteed it up with onions and garlic, then added a can of chopped tomatos and mushrooms.  A few minutes before it was ready I threw in a bunch of shrimp, and a small dollop of ricotta Cheese.  I served it over rice, and it was delicious.  I'm thinking feta cheese could work, too.
