Finally, a court date!
I don't know if anyone remembers, but back in September of 2007 my sister was almost killed by a drunk driver when she was driving home from Rosh Hashanah dinner at my uncle's. Now, almost two years later, the case is finally going to court. It was supposed to happen this week, but it's been postponed until July 13th.

The DA told my sister that there were two witnesses whom they'll be calling. They both saw a man stumble from the SUV and throw away a plastic bag filled with empty bottles. Obviously, he was a passenger, since the driver was definitely a woman. She was taken to the same ER as my sister, and we all saw her there. First she was crying, then she was furious.   I was in accident last year and you didn't arrest me   was her first comment.  The second was this is oppression, a white policemen showing racism to a black woman.   I still get furious myself, just thinking about it.  This drunk woman in her huge SUV plows into my sister's small car, turning it upside down, and then manages to land her SUV on TOP of my sister's car, and she's complaining?

I really don't know what will happen.  My sister has already received a payout from her insurance company, and the other driver's too, which was pretty minimal with the crappy insurance the woman had.  She already had a suspensed driver's license, too.  I hope they throw her ass in jail, but I don't know if that's a realistic hope or not.

This accident happened just six months after my mom died.  When Dad and I got to the ER, the first thing my sister said to me is "I wish Mommy was here."  I said to her, "maybe she is.  Maybe that's why your alive."  It was such a terrible year for all of us, really.

I hope the court case works in your guys favor. :-(

I really hope justice is served. *hugs*

Thanks, Rhi. *Hugs back*

I really hope this process brings you and your family a sense of justice, or at least closure. It is a horrible, horrible thing to go through a major car accident, and when the person at fault shows no remorse, and instead belligerence, it only compounds the pain they've already inflicted on their victim. On top of losing your mother, this must have been almost too much to bear. *hugs*

Thank you, sweetie. It really was a horrible time. Two weeks before I had to take my father to the ER with chest pain, though it was nothing, fortunately. 3 weeks after my sister's accident her boyfriend was in an even worse motorcycle accident. It was just one long, tiring period. I'm just glad it's over.

Really, really hope you get what you need.

Thank you, Suz. I hope so, too.

I will, sweetie. *Hugs*
