A really good day
Glee- 301 Blaine 2 by dani_art
Today was just a fantastic day.  Admittedly, it's only 6:30 PM, so something could happen to screw it all up, but right now I'm just to happy.

I went to work at 2, as always.  There are two older volunteers, Pat and Martha, that I'm pretty close with.  (They're in their seventies, I think.  I'm pretty much the youngest volunteer there, apart from the students volunteers.)  As soon as I came in, Martha told me she really needed to talk to me privately, and led me into the back room.  I was a little concerned to be honest.  Then she tells me that she's really fond of me, even if she doesn't express it much.  (I think she expresses it just fine, honestly.)  Then she hands me a gold chai (a Jewish charm), telling me she's had it since she was fifty.  She never wears it, and it seems silly to just leave it sitting there, so she wanted me to have it.  I couldn't believe it.  That was just so generous of her.  I thanked her profusely, hugged her, and when I got home I added the chai to the necklace I always wear, a gold chain with a small Jewish star.

After I got home, I cooked a red pepper tart from a Tuscan cookbook by Frances Mayes, and it came out PERFECT!  I changed a couple of things around, but it was still marvelous.  Dad loved it.  It's a very simple recipe.  Preheat the oven to 375%.  Place a ten inch, already made pastry crust into a pan.  Sautee up some onions and zucchini in olive oil (I added mushrooms and squash, as well.)  Saute for about 4 or 5 minutes, then put the veggies into the crust.  Meanwhile, beat 3 eggs and add 1/2 cup of cheese to the mixture.  (The recipe called for parmesan, but I used shredded mozzerella.)  Pour that over the veggie mix, then top with red pepper slices, tossed in olive oil, in a spoke pattern on top.  Cook for 30 minutes.  It was so amazing!

Finally, earlier this week I met Dad's new girlfriend Cheryl.  She stayed over Tuesday night, into Wednesday afternoon, and I have to admit that I liked her.  Of course, I liked Ruth at first, but I don't think I'll make that mistake again.  She seems very genuine.

So, good day in a good week.

That's great, sweetie! Very nice of your coworker, too. And hopefully your dad's new gf is not insane. This red pepper tart sounds delicious and easy.

So far, so good with the new GF. She wants me to come to her place this week.

The tart was easy and delicious! It didn't come out great the first time I made it (a couple of months ago), but this time it was perfect!

That does sound like a really nice day :) It's always nice to find out someone is so fond of you! And the tart sounds yummy.

Thanks. She really surprised me, I have to admit.

I'm really happy you had a good day. You so deserve it after all the crap you've been through! :D
